LWIL SPONSORS KINMAYOR LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

 
The Leadership Summit 2017 which was organised by KINMAYOR Leadership Freak and sponsored by Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited, took place on the 29th and 30th of June 2017. The program was organised for communities in the Lekki Free Zone (LFZ) to enlighten over 200 students from various schools on:
·         The importance of leadership and behavioural skills
·         Personal development and growth; in preparation for the opportunities present now and in future; in and outside the LFZ
·         Career guidance.
The program allowed for various activities which included debate and quiz sessions amongst others. Several speakers at the event included: Mr. Popson Jaiyesimi, Executive Director (Fin. & Admin.) LWIL, represented by Mr. Taiwo Kolawole, General Manager (Stakeholders Management); Engr. Kunle Fadumiye, a Civil Engineer at Lekki Port LFTZ; Vincent Adeoba, a motivational speaker and author and Pastor Mayowa Akinnola, the Founder of KINMAYOR Leadership Freak.

LWIL TACKLES SECURITY ISSUES IN LFZ

 
For enhanced security and maintenance of peace between all stakeholders in the Lekki Free Zone, Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited set up a Joint Security Network (JSN) 2 years ago.
Meetings of the network have looked at the increased activities of Cattle Herdsmen in the country and in particular, the Lekki Free Zone. On June 8, 2017, Mr. Popson Jaiyesimi, Executive Director (F&A) LWIL and Chairman, JSN, met with various community Chiefs, The Seriki Fulani and their representatives, the Nigerian Police Force and representatives for the investors in the LFZ, for a discussion aimed at addressing these issues and devising solutions to the problems arising. He expressed his joy at the cooperation of all the stakeholders and extended the greetings of the State Governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode. The mode of cattle grazing in the communities was discussed and it was agreed that:
·         An MoU would be signed between communities and the herdsmen to allow for law and order.
·         Herdsmen would be issued identity cards after being profiled by the appropriate state security agency.
Other issues discussed include; traffic management in the LFZ and its axis, as well as community enlightenment programs.

LWIL INITIATES EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

 
On May 17, 2017, Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited (LWIL), in line with her mandate, initiated the empowerment of Artisanal fishermen in the Ibeju-Lekki/Epe axis of Lagos State, to help boost business activities and generate job opportunities in their communities. The Executive Director (Technical) and the General Manager (Stakeholders’ Management) LWIL, together with representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, met with community representatives to discuss how community members would be empowered with the formation of a ‘Cooperative Agricultural Multipurpose Society’. The benefits of the society were highlighted as:
·         Access to credit
·         Access to the same level of information
The community members were then taken through the registration process, after which the community representatives expressed their pleasure at the initiative which they said will empower their communities and generate revenue for individuals and the Lagos State Government.

TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF LFZ: COMMUNITY ISSUES

 

On May 11, 2017, Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited met with representatives of The Abomiti Community to discuss about the development of the LFZ. The meeting centred on the benefits of speeding up the resettlement process of the communities affected by the free zone project. The community representatives appreciated the impact of LWIL in protecting their interests and implored that more could still be done on community empowerment. The Managing Director, LWIL, Dr. Tunde Sodade and the Executive Director (Finance and Administration) Mr. Popson Jaiyesimi, expressed delight with the conduct of the interactive session whilst praising the efforts of the State Governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode in consolidating the template for continuity in the development of Lagos State and the free zone project. They appealed for more co-operation and patience from the communities as LWIL work to deliver beneficial improvements to the community.

3-DAY CSR WORKSHOP

“Educate a boy, and you educate an individual, educate a girl, and you educate a community,” observed Adelaide Hoodless, a Canadian educational reformer. She might have as well added that “educate a community, and you educate generations.” It was to this effect that the Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited as promoters and managers of the Lekki Free Zone organized a 3-day workshop on “Communication and Team Skills in Effective Interfacing on Community Service and Relations” for Stakeholders in the LFZ communities at the La Campagne Beach Resort, Lekki, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, on the 9-11, December, 2016. The purpose of this workshop was to emphasize the importance of Corporate/Community Social Responsibilities as a major bridge of unity and trust between investors and host communities, the neglect of which could result in insecurity and loss of multi-billion dollar investments in the axis. It also reiterated that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration is passionate about the investment in the corridor, a designated mega city, as it is the future hub of commerce and industry in Africa.
 
The Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited, Popson Jaiyesimi, who spoke at the workshop also added that CSR had become so critical that it could not be neglected by investors willing to secure their investments, and as a result of this, investors and  communities needed to have an avenue to engage in productive talks. Several other stakeholders and representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Cooperatives, Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Rendeavour Development Group, Dangote Group, Lekki Free Zone, Lekki Worldwie Investments Limited, various communities in the zone (Airport, Lekki Coastal, Akodo, Yegunda) were all present at the workshop with their presentations and expectations.
